热处理金属材料在固态下经加热、保温和冷却，以改善材料性能的工艺。飞行器制造中，热处理可以改善毛坯的切削加工性、钣金件的成形性和材料的机械、物理和化学性能，使零件具备设计要求的性能。热处理还可以消除零件和焊接件中的有害残余应力，稳定零件的尺寸。飞行器制造中，除应用一般机械制造业中常用的热处理工艺外，还采用一些特殊的热处理工艺和设备。微变形淬火 飞行器的零构件经过淬火会发生较大的变形,在淬火后还需要校正。这不仅耗费时间,降低生产率，而且变形过大的零件因无法校正而成为废品。高强度钢制造的飞机起落架、翼梁等常采取等温淬火和低温回火的微变形淬火技术。等温淬火是将高温加热和保温后的零件迅速转移到温度约为180～350°C的熔盐炉内保温0.25～1.0小时,然后在空气中冷却(见图)。等温淬火不仅可以显著地减小零件在淬火时的变形，而且改变等温温度可以在一定的范围内凋节钢的强度、塑性和韧性，以达到设计要求的数值。高强度铝合金的蒙皮、隔框等钣金件用聚醚、聚二醇水溶液等代替水作淬火介质可以明显地减小铝合金钣金件的淬火变形。使用专用淬火夹具也能有效地防止淬火零件的变形。真空热处理 将零件置于真空室内加热、保温和冷却，以提高零件表面层的性能和质量。压气机的钛合金叶片经真空退火可以除去表面层中的氢，避免氢脆。飞行器仪表中的软磁体经过高温真空退火可以有效地提高导磁率和减小矫顽力。真空热处理还用于发动机中的不锈钢和耐热钢零件。保护气氛热处理 飞机起落架、某些固体火箭发动机的壳体等超高强度钢零件,在空气电炉中热处理时,极易发生表面氧化和脱碳，降低表面层的强度和硬度，缩短疲劳寿命。钛合金零件在高温空气电炉中加热时，表面吸氧，使合金脆化。热处理时向炉内通入中性气体或惰性气体，或在零件表面上涂敷保护涂料，或两者并用，可以保证飞行器零件的表面层质量。化学热处理 金属零件在一定介质中加热到一定温度后保温，使介质中某种元素渗入零件表面层，以改变零件表面成分和组织，使之获得特殊要求的性能。如航空发动机传动齿轮、尾轴的渗碳，发动机涡轮轴的渗氮处理等，其目的是提高表面层硬度，增加耐磨性和提高疲劳强度。对于用高温合金制造的发动机涡轮盘、导向叶片等零件，也可在零件表面渗铝、铝-铬或铝-硅共渗，以提高抗氧化性和耐蚀性。
